It’s been just over a year since we left our born-and-raised town of Abbotsford, BC. The original goal? 4 months of working away to pay off our debt. The revised goal? Working away as long as we need to pay off all debt and save money to travel South East Asia for at least 6 months.
Life is so interesting.
What has actually happened in this past year:
+ We have paid off ALL debt!!! Freedom.
+ Mike worked his butt off with some rough guys in the oil field. He came home looking like a zombie most evenings. I am so thankful and proud of him.
+ I got to grow and learn in a creative working environment that taught me a lot.
+ Friendships were born and maybe some were lost.
+ Our ghetto (FREE) truck broke down about three times (and is broken down again)
+ We survived the coldest winter of our lives living in Narnia
+ Snowboarded the smallest (Table Mountain) and largest (Revelstoke Mountain – highest vert) mountains in North America
+ Dreams have been reborn, refined and refueled
+ Probably too much Netflix watching (c’mon its winter for 7 months)
+ A lot of learning and stretching within ourselves and the relationships around us
+ I got a stellar new bike from my parents
+ We have a savings account (with $ in it) for the first time since we have been married
+ A great visit home for a 50th birthday party with as many nature-filled adventures we could cram into our week in BC
+ Another move, this time to Saskatoon
Where we are going ; dreams and plans and goals:
+ Travel South East Asia: We want to have about 50/50 relax and volunteer time. * I started a South East Asia Bucket List Pinterest Board *
+ I want to start a business
+ We want to save enough for a down payment for a house
+ More fun and adventure (Mike’s number one requirement for life!)
+ Kids, some day
+ PS. We love change so this list is up for revision at all times
The only way to live the next year is to take full advantage of every present moment.
In one year, these present moments will become my stepping stones and my memories.
I can’t wait to see what comes.
Does anyone remember that desktop wallpaper I posted a couple weeks back with the quote, “Replace the fear of the unknown with curiosity?” Well, I know now that this quote was entirely for me. Yesterday we made a big, and quite short notice, move to Alberta. My husband got the opportunity for work, and everything at home just seemed to be falling into place to lead us out here. As I found myself driving through the most insane mountain passes I was repeating this quote to myself changing all my fears of small towns, no friends, and cold winters to a curiosity of new opportunities, goals and dreams we could have never obtained before, and a fresh start in our life. Here’s to adventure.
So I have been a little MIA lately. A little overwhelmed. And taking on a little too much. But I feel like I can breathe now, and here I am. Here are some pics of what I have been up to lately, and although I feel like I have been busy, it looks like I have made time for a lot of fun…you gotta have priorities right?
A trip to Horseshoe Bay to sell my car, which retired to a bed & breakfast in Gibsons.
Some sun and goofing around, we do that a lot. (well not the sun part, sadly)
A biz trip to Kansas City, Missouri. Had some good BBQ!
Homemade rosemary lemonade for a goodbye party. We miss you Kleyns & Bitners!
Working on some projects (more pics of this to come!), with a sleeping dog beside me.
I saw this bike (WITH A WINE HOLDER) at a menswear shop. New coffee place, ahh.
Thrifted these shoes & love them. Insane hair hurricane in the car :)
Dressing up for Mike’s aunts 40th bday party & and moustache calamari!
I always love projects that involve gold spraypaint and farm animals.
I can’t believe February is more than half over already. I know some may disagree but spring is NOT my favorite season. I love summer, and spring to me is just a tease, it will start getting sunny here in Vancouver, which gets me stoked for summer, and then it rains for like 4 more months. boo. Anyway, I am enjoying our peeks of sun that we have now and February has been good to me. Here are a few of my favourite instagram’s from February so far. You can follow me on instagram here.
